Thanks from Ryan Sewell, Convention Chair:

On behalf of the entire 5th Congressional District Iowa Democratic Party, we extend our deep and sincere thanks to:

All 32 County chairs whose hard work organizing and conducting the County Conventions laid the foundation for the 5th District's Convention.

Kate Gronstal: Kate spear headed the use of the Mid-America Center and carried it through to the smallest detail. Worked months tirelessly to have the best 5th district convention ever and showcase the City of Council Bluffs by being the liaison for the Democrats to the Mid-America center. Through her efforts, Democrats have gotten every possible economic advantage with the best possible facility. Kate is really the arrangement committee.

Josee Beier from the Convention and Visitors Bureau: If we needed it she worked to help us get it with a smile on her face. From your name tags to the bags that held your information today. We owe her and the Convention and Visitors Bureau many thanks for all the work and effort they have put into the convention. Their goal was our goal to make a successful convention.

Katie and Angie and staff at the Mid-America Center, for hours of planning and many kindnesses above the call of a business relationship. Every detail that they could provide. Every correction and adjustment was accommodated to help us. The Democrats are lucky to have such dedicated people to help and Council Bluffs is lucky to have such a wonderful facility to use.

Dave Neas Chair of the 5th District for his tireless efforts on behalf of the party.

Rick Mullin for creating and maintaining our 5th District website, www.idp5.org

Linda Steensland planned the lovely and fun pre-convention reception at the Holiday Inn.

Beth Wilson for managing the Platform and agenda display today as well as the recorded music.

Brianna Schwenk, Jody Ewing and Megan Arellano serving as Secretaries for the convention

Girls Scout Troop 377 Council Bluffs for the presentation of the Flag and making that process more meaning by also allowing us to make donations to the Goodwill

Brianna Schwenk's Quartet for the live music at the convention. That adds to the special day that can't be measured.

All of the above made a special contribution and we owe them a debt of gratitude for spending time to make the IDP 5th District Convention a success.

Special Thanks from Bud Lewis, who had a medical emergency at the convention:

As you may be aware, as a delegate to the 5th District Convention, I became ill and required treatment at a local hospital.  Before that happened there were some very special people that took it upon themselves to give me care and treatment.  The young Intern from Crieghton. the EMT on duty, nurses especially our own emergency room nurse from Mercy, LaDonna Griffith, who happened to be sitting beside me at the conference all made a very uncomfortable situation bearable. Two little girls that I have never seen before stood beside me and offered cold cloth, and warm smiles, again making a bad situation more bearable.

There are three people that I do wish to name, and hope that they are not embarrassed or offended.  My life long friend Ellen Andre who stayed with me until my wife arrived at the hospital; she circulated the air even if it was with a Hillary sign she had taken from the wall (we argue since I am in her words, an "O" man!) but at the end of the day she was there. Kitty Green, also a Hillary supporter, drove with Ellen, placed a Hillary button in my belongings and shared the drama of the emergency room. And, finally in the middle of the worst of the spell, someone took my hands, and smiled as wonderful a smile as I have ever seen when I looked up at her.  I will never forget the look of caring and concern on Teresa Wolfe's face...and when the doctor asked if she were family my answer was "close enough!"  It is not that kind of person who makes our party what it is, it is that kind of person who makes people what they should be.  Sadly there is never enough reward for being a special human being...and there can never be enough thanks.

Bud Lewis
